Supermodel

Tyra is well known as one of the world’s Supermodel’s, but what does it
mean to be one? Read on and find out:

A supermodel is a highly-paid elite
fashion model who usually has a worldwide reputation and often a
background in haute couture and commercial modelling. The term took hold
in the popular culture of the 1980s and 1990s. - Wikipedia

Supermodel’s are the Elite models in the industry and are usually well
recognized the world over. Some of the most famous names over the years
include Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Christy Turlington,
Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and of course our very own Tyra Banks.

You may be interested in knowing that the term itself goes way back and
includes names such as Twiggy who is now a judge on ‘America’s Next Top
Model’, and of course the infamous Janice Dickinson, who claims to be
the world’s first Supermodel - though the industry is more likely to
point to Lisa Fonssagrives who appeared on over 200 Vogue Covers and
appeared in magazines in the 1930’s - 1950’s.

Of course with Supermodel status seems to come speculation of ‘Diva
attitudes’, ‘weight problems’ and more. Possibly the most talked about
being Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, who made headlines consistently for
all the wrong reasons.

Whilst the world may still seem to regard the term ‘Supermodel’ as still
very much alive, the ladies themselves seem to think differently with
Claudia Schiffer quoted as saying "supermodels, like we once were, don’t
exist any more,". She also claimed that only  Gisele Bundchen could
now be worthy of the name.
